Leire Urbeltz is an accomplished muralist and illustrator currently pursuing a PhD in Basque Studies with a special focus in Art through the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. Originally from Iruña in the province of Navarra, Leire has been commissioned for murals and other community art projects throughout the Basque Country and now the western United States. You can see some of her pieces at Barbara Bennett Park off of Arlington or at Craft Wine and Beer on Martin St. When approached by the ZBBC about the festival poster, Leire was more than happy to lend her talents, bringing her enthusiasm and vibrant style to the club’s vision of this year’s event. Typography by Garazi Etxaniz
Garazi Etxaniz, with a degree in Graphic Design, is a visiting scholar at the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. Visiting from Beasain in Gipuzkoa, Garazi was excited to contribute her skills to the local Basque community, working alongside Leire and members of the Reno Basque Club to design this year’s poster. With a sharp eye for creativity and function, Garazi developed the typography in a way that would pop while speaking to Leire’s retro-inspired illustration. You can follow Garazi on Instagram @garazi_
